At Ascot Murphy Eager for Tamfana Reunion

Oisin Murphy is poised to claim his fourth champion jockey title at Ascot this Saturday and hopes to crown his season with a victory aboard Tamfana in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Murphy will receive the title for the first time since 2021 on Qipco British Champions Day, with David Menuisier's Sun Chariot winner being one of his key rides.

Tamfana, fresh off her Group One triumph at Newmarket, is ready for another top-level challenge. Murphy expressed confidence in her form, saying, "David is thrilled with her condition, and she’s drawn well beside Charyn. She handles soft ground, and I’m looking forward to riding her."

Charyn, this season's standout miler, will be tough competition, but Murphy remains optimistic. He noted other strong contenders, including the French horse Metropolitan.

Murphy had missed riding Tamfana in her Newmarket victory due to prior commitments with Andrew Balding’s See The Fire. He acknowledged that such scheduling conflicts are part of a jockey's life, but is eager to reunite with Tamfana.

In addition, Murphy will ride King’s Gambit in the Qipco Champion Stakes. Although considered an outsider, Murphy believes the horse has a strong chance. "I worked with him recently, and he’s in great shape," he said.

Murphy also expressed hope for success with Queen Of The Pride in the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, a filly he holds in high regard after her impressive victories earlier in the season.
