You Got To Me justified significant backing from punters to claim a decisive victory in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks at the Curragh.
Trained by Ralph Beckett, the daughter of Nathaniel had previously won Lingfield’s Oaks Trial earlier in the season. Despite finishing fourth to Ezeliya at Epsom and in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Ascot while racing keenly on the front end, she was heavily supported in the market, shortening to 15-2 from double-figure odds overnight.
With a tongue-tie applied and ridden with more restraint by regular jockey Hector Crouch, You Got To Me settled comfortably in mid-division. As the race unfolded, Crouch guided her smoothly into contention, demonstrating both her stamina and class. When asked to quicken, You Got To Me responded gamely, taking the lead with a furlong to go and holding off the late challenge of Aidan O’Brien’s favourite Content, who finished second at odds of 3-1. Paddy Twomey’s Purple Lily secured third place.
Reflecting on the race, Beckett acknowledged that the plan had not gone entirely as expected but praised Crouch for adapting brilliantly to the circumstances.
The victory marked a special moment for both jockey and trainer, showcasing You Got To Me’s determination and Crouch’s skilful ride under pressure.
