Yoshito Yahagi offers Shin Emperor the chance to compete in the Irish Champion Stakes
Leading Japanese trainer Yoshito Yahagi may aim for one of Ireland's premier races after conquering America, Australia, and the Middle East.
Yahagi entered French-bred Shin Emperor, a three-year-old, in the September 14 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
The seasoned handler, well-known for his sense of style in helmets, has had tremendous success at home with players like local Triple Crown champion Contrail and is fearless in venture beyond.
Loves Marche and Only You Lys Gracieux won Australia's Cox Plate in 2019. Lorraine handed him a historic double in the Breeders' Cup in 2021.
Yahagi won a second Dubai Turf championship in 2022 thanks to reliable stalwart Panthalassa, who also won the Saudi Cup the following year.
After placing third in his native Derby, the Tokyo Yushun, and a close fifth in the Japanese 2,000 Guineas, Shin Emperor looks like the perfect horse to take up the travelling mantle.
He is the full brother of 2020 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sottsass, the son of Siyouni and the daughter of the Galileo mare Starlet's Sister.
