Without Words made a late surge to win in the Coolmore Stud

Without Words made a strong late surge to overtake Matilda Picotte and claim victory in the Coolmore Stud No Nay Never Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien, Without Words had finished fifth in the Listed Ruby Stakes at Killarney in her previous outing. Despite this, she was a 40-1 outsider, stepping up to Group Three level for this race.

Ridden by Mikey Sheehy, she faced a competitive field of eight, including Paddy Twomey’s Super Sox, the 5-6 favourite, and Matilda Picotte, last year’s runner-up, who was a 5-2 chance.

Matilda Picotte set the early pace, while Without Words was held back at the rear, still in last place with two furlongs to go.

In a dramatic finish, Without Words made significant progress, overtaking her rivals and challenging Matilda Picotte in the final strides. She edged ahead to win by a length.

Sean Corby, representing O’Brien, commented after the stable’s third victory of the day, "She ran well last time at Killarney. Dylan Browne McMonagle noted she needs a good gallop, and she got that today. She can be a bit keen, but she settled nicely with the pace we had. She picked up strongly and got there in the end. Matilda Picotte ran a great race as well."

"She’s a talented filly when everything goes right for her. Today was a career-best, and she’s heading in the right direction. It’s been a fantastic day with the horses performing really well."
