Whitton hosts a free seminar about reducing risks of injuries in racehorses

Internationally renowned Professor Chris Whitton will return to Ireland on Wednesday, October 2, to host a free seminar focused on reducing the risk of fractures and other bone injuries in racehorses.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board will hold the seminar at The Club at Goffs, Co Kildare, starting at 8 PM.

This event is aimed at trainers, owners, veterinarians, and anyone involved in the care of racing Thoroughbreds.

Addressing a Global Concern

Bone injuries, including fractures, pose a significant challenge for the racing industry worldwide, often leading to poor performance and career-ending conditions.

Professor Chris Whitton leads the Equine Limb Injury Prevention Programme, funded by Racing Victoria, the Victorian State Government, and the University of Melbourne. He previously presented on developing preventative training and management protocols for racehorses at Leopardstown in 2018.

Seminar Details

The seminar will provide cutting-edge knowledge and valuable insights into how bone injuries occur in Thoroughbreds. It will also outline best practices to minimise fracture risk.

Whitton will discuss methods to reduce injuries, drawing on decades of research from various racing jurisdictions. A multifaceted approach—including advanced biomechanical insights, preventive care, and evidence-based training adjustments—is essential for mitigating bone injury risk in racehorses.

Chris Whitton's expertise offers the racing community a valuable opportunity to enhance horse welfare and promote the long-term health and success of their horses. Implementing these practices not only benefits the animals but also offers economic advantages and strengthens the integrity of the racing industry.

As part of the IHRB's commitment to equine welfare and safety, attendance at this event is free, but advance registration is required.
