Vandeek will miss the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville next weekend due to a training setback.
Simon and Ed Crisford’s colt had a flawless juvenile season, winning all four of his starts, including back-to-back Group One victories in the Prix Morny at Deauville and the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.
However, his three-year-old season has been challenging. After a defeat by Inisherin in the soft-ground Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock, he missed the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot due to unsatisfactory blood tests. Although he finished third in the July Cup at Newmarket, offering hope for the rest of the season, he now faces another spell on the sidelines.
Ed Crisford shared the news on Twitter, saying, “Unfortunately, Vandeek has encountered a setback, and it’s too early to determine how long he will need before returning to full training. It’s very frustrating as he had looked as good as ever in his recent work.”
