Grizel Sackville-Hamilton, a stalwart presence in the equestrian community as a judge, trainer, and organiser, passed away at 99, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and compassion. Born into a disciplined household, Grizel's affinity for horses blossomed under her father's tutelage in British India. Despite facing adversity, including the loss of her father and wartime service, Grizel remained steadfast in her pursuit of equestrian excellence.

In 1947, Grizel married Lt Col James Barclay Sackville-Hamilton, embarking on a life intertwined with military service and equestrian pursuits. Her commitment to fairness and integrity as a British Dressage judge earned her widespread respect. Beyond the arena, Grizel's contributions to organisations like the British Riding Clubs and Riding for the Disabled Association showcased her unwavering support for riders of all abilities.
