Triumph at last: Our Boy Rocky's third attempt proves fruitful

Liam Cusack's trainee, Our Boy Rocky, exhibited a powerful gallop in the closing stages of the two-mile-three maiden hurdle at Thurles, securing a noteworthy victory.

The initial exuberance of the Doyen gelding was evident as he surged ahead at the fourth flight, with jockey Richie Deegan skilfully guiding him. 

Overcoming a strong challenge from the other favoured contender, Roxhill Roise, Our Boy Rocky, priced at 2/1, displayed resilience and determination, clinching the win by an impressive three-and-three-quarter lengths. This triumph marks the third outing for Our Boy Rocky, following a sixth-place finish on debut in November and a fifth-place finish at Limerick during the festive season. 

Delighted with the performance, Cusack commented,

"Our Boy Rocky is an exceptional horse who has showcased his talent in maiden hurdles and has recovered splendidly since his last race at Limerick".

Cusack's decision to enter this particular race was driven by the fact that Our Boy Rocky received favourable allowances compared to previous bumper winners. 

Despite the withdrawal of the morning favourite, St Cuthberts Cave, Cusack remained optimistic about his horse's prospects, stating,

"We hold him in high regard; his jumping prowess is remarkable, and Richie's assertive ride contributed to his success”.

Considering Our Boy Rocky's delicate temperament, Cusack intends to nurture his development, allowing him to gain experience and gradually adapt to his role.

As a novice until December, the coming months will determine the progress of Our Boy Rocky, potentially setting the stage for an exciting transition to hurdle fences in the upcoming season.
