Graeme North of Timeform examines the best bets based on time figures in this year's Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree.
Nicky Henderson's stable, which has dominated the Randox Grand National for 20 years, was uncertain on day one, but on day two, Henderson sent Sir Gino to victory in the four-year-old Bardle and Shishkin to fourth in the Bowl.
Three tricky handicaps make the second day harder, but the Graded races appear doable, though I'd skip the Mildmay Novices' Chase, a Grade 1 three-mile event. Six horses, including two Cheltenham winners, go to post. Timeform performance ratings and early betting have Giovinco at 10/1, a price that may drop given his stablemate Ahoy Senor's Bowl win.
Impressive Dublin Racing Festival winner Heart Wood, Ultima champ. Three of the other five horses rated within 4lb of Inothewayurthinkin on Timeform are Chianti Classico and Brown Advisory third Giovinco. However, Iroko leads the field on the clock on his sixth behind Grey Dawning in the Turners at Cheltenham.
Jonbon leads the Melling Chase time ratings, and it's fantastic to see him tackle two and a half miles. His only three defeats have all come at Cheltenham (he has won twice at Aintree). His jumping wasn't good in the Clarence House when last seen, and he had a much tougher race than connections wanted as he scrambled back into contention.
