Thornton's Aspirations Grow with Where's Frankie's Success

Where's Frankie showed true grit to secure victory in a thrilling edition of the Willie Gibbons 38 Years Handicap Chase, covering an extended distance of 3m4f at Leopardstown.

In a fiercely contested race, only five horses remained in contention as they approached the final stretch, making for a significantly reduced field. Where's Frankie maintained a strong position at the forefront, fending off the challenges from the chasing pack. Favori Logique made a determined push and nearly caught up with Where's Frankie at the last obstacle, but the leader's superior jump secured the advantage.

Jockey Donagh Meyler swiftly took control, urging Where's Frankie on as Outside The Door made a late surge in the final moments. Ultimately, Where's Frankie held on by a narrow margin at odds of 13/2, with the 18/1 outsider finishing as the runner-up. Favori Logique, priced at 20/1, trailed six lengths behind in third place.

Trainer Karl Thornton commented on the performance, stating that the extended distance of three miles and four furlongs suited Where's Frankie well, particularly on the course at Leopardstown. The light rain that fell during the week proved to be a blessing, as it likely influenced the decision to run the horse. Looking ahead, Thornton revealed plans to enter Where's Frankie in the 0-140 handicap at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday, followed by a well-deserved break.

Expressing confidence in the horse's abilities, Thornton hinted at ambitions for future races, including a potential entry in the Irish National next year should Where's Frankie's ratings increase. Reflecting on the horse's character, Thornton praised his genuine nature and expressed optimism for what lies ahead, emphasising that dreams can always be pursued in the world of racing.
