The Team of L'Homme Presse finds numerous positives in Ascot's second-place finish

Cheltenham Gold Cup hopes alive as L'Homme Presse finishes second at Ascot.

Andy Edwards remains optimistic about his Cheltenham Gold Cup aspirations despite L'Homme Presse falling short of victory in the Betfair Ascot Chase, trailing behind the impressive Pic D'Orhy. Co-owned by Peter and Patricia Pink, the horse faced tough competition in the Grade One event at Ascot, but Edwards viewed it as an honour to compete against contenders like Pic D'Orhy and Ahoy Senor.

The disappointment of missing out on the blue riband last season due to injury has not deterred Edwards and his team. Although the Ascot setback caused a slight dip in L'Homme Presse's Gold Cup odds, the focus remains on a triumphant return to Prestbury Park where the nine-year-old has shone before.

Reflecting on the race, Edwards acknowledged that the conditions may not have been ideal for L'Homme Presse, noting that the drying ground posed a challenge. Despite this, he commended the winner's performance and expressed satisfaction with his horse's effort, particularly towards the end of the race. The upcoming Gold Cup, with its longer distance, is seen as a more suitable challenge for L'Homme Presse.

While Pic D'Orhy dominated the Ascot Chase, Edwards contemplated withdrawing L'Homme Presse from the race due to the circumstances. However, recognising the importance of the run as part of the Gold Cup preparation, the decision was made to stay in the competition. Edwards underlined the significance of every opportunity to compete at a high level, highlighting the valuable experience gained from setbacks like the previous injury layoff.

Despite finishing in second place, Edwards remained positive and grateful for the chance to compete in a Grade One event. Looking ahead to the Cheltenham Festival, he expressed contentment and optimism, acknowledging the competitive field but relishing the opportunity to participate and strive for success.
