The British equestrian community comes together in support of a new charter promoting the welfare of horses

As individuals fortunate enough to be involved in the equestrian world, it is our responsibility to advocate for the highest standards of horse welfare. This is an absolute necessity.

To address this, a new Charter for the Horse has been introduced. It represents a unified effort to protect the well-being of horses and other equids. On March 18th, the British Equestrian (BEF), along with its 19 member organizations and key figures in the industry, came together to sign this charter. Their commitment is to uphold the utmost standards of equine welfare, well-being, and ethical treatment.

The charter has been designed to be embraced by all individuals and organisations connected to the horse industry. It encompasses six core principles: empathy, care, respect, consideration, ethics, and learning. Under these headings, the charter outlines the necessary measures to ensure that all the needs of our horses are met.

Jim Eyre, CEO of BEF, emphasised the importance of our privileged position in working and living alongside these magnificent creatures. He stressed the need for us to champion excellence and unwavering standards when it comes to their welfare. The response and support for the Charter for the Horse have been truly remarkable in bringing this initiative to fruition.
