Tate targets Group-class competition for Royal Dress

After an unfortunate run in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom, James Tate's Royal Dress aims for Group-class compensation. The Night Of Thunder filly started her career with a victory at Listed level in the Conqueror Fillies' Stakes at Goodwood in May. She then moved up to Group Three level at Epsom, where she encountered difficulties due to blocked passages. Despite this, she still finished third, just three-quarters of a length behind the winner.

Tate expressed his disappointment at the luckless run but remains optimistic about Royal Dress's potential. The filly prefers softer ground, so her next target will depend on the weather conditions. While she does not have an entry for Royal Ascot, Tate is considering supplementing her for the Duke of Cambridge Stakes if the ground is suitable. He believes that Royal Dress has the potential to perform well in Group races, especially on softer ground.

Looking ahead, Tate has identified various options for Royal Dress, including races in July such as the Falmouths, Valiants at Ascot, and the Rathbride at the Curragh. He emphasises the importance of finding the right race on the right ground for the filly to showcase her abilities. Tate is confident that Royal Dress can deliver a strong performance in any Group race, especially if the conditions are favourable.
