Dollar Value dominated the Knockcroghery Claiming Hurdle at Roscommon this evening. Trained by Tom McCourt, this nine-year-old runner was the top-rated in the lineup. Just a few days after finishing fourth at Bellewstown, Dollar Value went on to win easily as the 11/4 joint-favourite.
Taking the lead from the start, Dollar Value, now a 12-time winner, extended his advantage under jockey Alex Harvey. Despite some pressure from the competition, Dollar Value continued to lead and crossed the finish line 14 lengths ahead. Coastal World finished second at odds of 80/1, followed closely by Gino Drummer Boy at 14/1.
Unfortunately, the other joint-favourite Kendancer pulled up during the race. According to McCourt, Dollar Value performs exceptionally well on certain days and has had some minor health issues in the past year. McCourt expressed interest in keeping the talented runner for future races.
Claimers have proved beneficial for older horses like Dollar Value, offering them a fair chance against out-of-form competitors. McCourt mentioned that Dollar Value might perform well in steeplechase races, but is cautious due to his high rating and occasional health concerns. Despite these challenges, McCourt praised Dollar Value for his impressive victories and expressed gratitude for the horse's performance.
