Switzerland will take time off following surgery

The promising two-year-old colt Switzerland will be taking a break from racing after having surgery to remove a bone chip in his fetlock.

Switzerland, who is sired by Snitzel, had an impressive start to his career under trainer Chris Waller, winning his first three races, including the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m). However, he finished eighth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) as the second favourite (£5 TAB). The surgery means that Switzerland's current campaign as a two-year-old will come to an end, but the stable plans to prepare him for the upcoming spring carnival later this year.

The announcement of the surgery was made by Chris Waller Racing through a social media statement, which stated that Switzerland experienced a minor issue after the Golden Slipper and will undergo surgery to remove a small chip in his fetlock.

The statement expressed optimism about his recovery and mentioned that the stable is targeting the Group 1 Golden Rose and Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes during the spring season. Switzerland was purchased for £1.5 million as a yearling at the 2023 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and is owned by Coolmore.
