Streets Of Doyen Heads to the Czech Republic for Velka Pardubicka Challenge

John McConnell’s Streets Of Doyen is heading to the Czech Republic to take on the Velka Pardubicka at Pardubice racecourse this Sunday.

The 10-year-old gelding is one of two horses making the journey from Ireland, alongside Gordon Elliott’s Coko Beach, which will also be familiar to viewers from Britain and Ireland.

Streets Of Doyen brings some cross-country experience to the table, having participated in the La Touche Cup at Punchestown in May, where he managed to clear 15 obstacles before unseating rider Alex Harvey at the 16th.

This time, his brother Ben Harvey will take the reins as they face just over four miles and two furlongs, navigating 31 obstacles that include banks, ditches, rails, and the infamous Taxis fence.

"He left early this morning, and Ben has gone over to ride him," McConnell shared on Tuesday."

"He’s the kind of horse who will either adapt well to the course or struggle, so it could either end quickly or he might produce a fantastic performance."

"The owners are eager to participate as they really enjoy cross-country racing. He was making a good run in the La Touche before knuckling over at the drop bank in Punchestown, so we know he has the potential."
