Sparkling Plenty’s triumph at Chantilly

David Menuisier experienced mixed emotions at the Prix de Diane as Sparkling Plenty clinched victory over Survie in an all-French finale at Chantilly, relegating Tamfana to third place.

Carlos Laffon-Parias’ Halfday set a brisk pace, closely shadowed by Oisin Murphy, keen to avoid a repeat of Tamfana’s tough luck in the 1000 Guineas aboard Menuisier’s prized filly.

As the race unfolded, hopes of Classic glory remained alive for both pairs entering the home stretch. However, Tony Piccone aboard Patrice Cottier’s Sparkling Plenty stole the show, storming from the rear aboard the daughter of Kingman.

While Tamfana’s challenge faded in the final stretch, Sparkling Plenty surged ahead to secure a narrow victory, marking a maiden Classic triumph for her connections.

“It’s incredible. I knew we had a good chance, and everything played out perfectly,” shared Piccone with Sky Sports Racing. “Winning this race is a dream come true for me.”

For Sussex-based Menuisier, the outcome brought conflicting feelings, as his talented Soldier Hollow filly narrowly missed out on a major win for the second time this season.

“It’s a mix of pride and disappointment,” reflected Menuisier. “These top-quality horses are hard to come by, and she gave her all. She had every opportunity and led bravely. I’m proud of her effort, although naturally disappointed as she seemed poised to win."

“I believe she showed more acceleration over a mile, and perhaps I erred in stepping her up in distance. We’ll make adjustments moving forward.”
