Space Legend aims to make a strong return on the investment made by Wathnan Racing in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday. The colt, sired by Sea The Stars, finished second in his only juvenile appearance at Chelmsford before securing a victory at Leicester. Unfortunately, Space Legend narrowly missed out on a win in the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood due to a lack of clear running space. Richard Brown, the racing adviser for Wathnan, recommended adding Space Legend to their team after this promising performance.
In the King Edward VII Stakes, Space Legend faces competition from four Aidan O’Brien-trained runners and other strong contenders such as Calandagan and Theory Of Tides. The French raider Calandagan, trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, has won two Group Three races this spring and is prepared for the challenge at Ascot.
In the Albany Stakes, Fairy Godmother and Heaven’s Gate represent O’Brien’s stable. Fairy Godmother, ridden by Ryan Moore, is coming off a Group Three win at Naas and is expected to perform strongly. Mountain Breeze, trained by Charlie Appleby, is also a top contender after impressive performances at Newmarket. This two-year-old filly has shown great potential and is ready for the competitive race at Ascot.
