Soprano aims to participate in the Filly & Mare Turf

Soprano is set to remain in the United States as she prepares for the Breeders’ Cup, where she will compete in the Filly & Mare Turf, stepping up in distance once more. Trainer George Boughey’s decision to enter her in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland proved beneficial, as she finished a commendable second, six lengths behind the impressive winner, She Feels Pretty.

Previously, Soprano showed her potential when she finished strongly in third at the Matron Stakes in Leopardstown, and now she’ll tackle nearly a mile and a half at the Breeders’ Cup. Harry Herbert, managing director of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting that she was still learning and had room for improvement. “The travelling didn’t seem to faze her; she just needs a longer distance. Her ideal trip might be a mile and a quarter in Europe, but we’re excited for the mile and three at Del Mar,” he said.

Another Highclere filly, Believing, is also on the radar for Breeders’ Cup, specifically in the Sprint category after several strong finishes in Group One races this season. Plans are being finalised for both horses, with Ryan Moore confirmed to ride Believing, although Soprano’s jockey remains undecided. With the exciting challenge ahead, both fillies are poised to make a mark at the prestigious event.
