Simmering is set to compete in Group One

Simmering may have one final opportunity for a Group One victory this season, as her connections consider options in France and America.

Trained by Ollie Sangster, the Too Darn Hot filly was acquired by Al Shaqab Racing after finishing second to Fairy Godmother in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot. Since then, she has claimed the Princess Margaret Stakes and the Group Two Prix du Calvados at Deauville before competing in last weekend’s strong renewal of the Moyglare Stud Stakes in Ireland.

Facing tough competition, including Chesham winner Bedtime Story, the highly regarded Red Letter, and Sweet Solera champion Lake Victoria, Simmering finished a commendable second as Lake Victoria surged to victory.

“She came out of the race very well; it was a strong field with many talented fillies,” said Sangster. “She ran a great race. While we aim for wins, finishing second is still a solid result.”

“We’ll assess how she’s doing. She seems to have come out of it well, but she may either be done for the season or have one more run. That could be in the Prix Marcel Boussac or the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (Turf). We have different timelines and options to consider, but I suspect she’ll have just one more outing, especially since she’s had a few quick races since late July and the Princess Margaret.”

Sangster also praised another of his promising two-year-old fillies, Flight, who earned black type with a third-place finish in the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster last week, behind the unbeaten Desert Flower.

“I thought she ran a commendable race,” he remarked. “It would have been helpful if she’d had something to carry her further into the race, as she found herself in front for quite a while after travelling well.”

“She’s taken a big step forward, and we’re pleased with that. She’s a big filly and one to watch for next year. She might have one more run, possibly in the Oh So Sharp, as it would be great to secure a stakes win. We’ll consider that as we move forward.”
