Shouldvebeenaring missed Sunday’s Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville due to a similar respiratory issue that had earlier forced Richard Hannon to withdraw stablemate Rosallion from the Sussex Stakes.
Rosallion, a hero of the Irish Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes, was pulled from the Goodwood feature last week because of a respiratory infection. Shouldvebeenaring, who was a strong contender for the Deauville Group One, also faced a respiratory issue, with his tracheal wash indicating an impending infection.
Palin expressed frustration over the missed opportunity, noting that Shouldvebeenaring was a strong candidate for Group One. “It’s disappointing, especially since Lazzat, the winner, performed exceptionally well, winning by three lengths. It’s a reminder that other three-year-olds, like Inisherin or Elite Status, could have a significant impact.”
Looking ahead, Palin mentioned plans to target the Haydock Sprint Cup, noting the field is currently wide open with Shouldvebeenaring priced at 7-1. He also confirmed that the Maurice de Gheest and Haydock Sprint Cup were key goals for the season.
