Jockey Kieran Shoemark is optimistic about Emily Upjohn's return to the track for the Cairn Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the mare did not compete at Royal Ascot, with her last race being the Coronation Cup at Epsom last month.
Despite winning the race in 2023, Emily Upjohn was unable to defend her title and finished fourth in a disappointing performance. However, Shoemark believes that she is poised for a summer resurgence and has high hopes for her upcoming races, including the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown and the Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket.
Having shown signs of improvement in training, Shoemark believes that Emily Upjohn needed the run at Epsom to find her form and is confident that she will perform better at the Curragh. He notes that she looks bright-eyed and ready to go, adding that they are hoping to see the return of the old Emily on the track.
