Shavasi secured a victory shot at Punchestown

The William Hill Irish EBF Fillies Handicap at Punchestown was dominated by Shavasi and Dylan Browne McMonagle, who secured a treble on the 11/4 shot.

Joseph O'Brien’s Shavasi took command early and maintained her position at the head of the field as they approached the three-furlong marker. She rounded the bend smoothly and powered ahead, asserting her lead inside the two-furlong pole and effectively sealing the race before the final furlong.

Browne McMonagle kept Shavasi moving strongly to win by two and three-quarter lengths from Presence (7/4f), who made a late effort but couldn’t close the gap.

"It’s been a fantastic day," Browne McMonagle said. "Everything is going really well, and I hope it continues."

"This filly performed exceptionally. She jumped well, travelled strongly, and quickened up nicely around the turn. She finished strongly at the line."

"We always had high hopes for her. The slight ease in the ground today suited her perfectly, and the trip was ideal as well. She’s still learning and should be an even better filly next year as she matures."

"The form from her previous run was solid, so if she replicated that here, she was always going to be tough to beat."

This victory contributed to a double for Joseph O’Brien, who also provided Browne McMonagle’s first winner of the day with Amangani (100/30). Browne McMonagle completed his treble with Proleek Prince (8/1) for Michael Rice.
