Saeed can't pick a favourite among his own Juddmonte International winners
Some trainers cherish their prestigious race wins with great pride, but Saeed bin Suroor is in a unique position: he can't pick a favourite among his own Juddmonte International winners.
Having won the race four times, bin Suroor’s top contenders are Halling and Sakhee. Sakhee's seven-length win in 2001 was spectacular, but Halling’s back-to-back victories in 1995 and 1996 were pivotal for Godolphin in its early days.
Bin Suroor recalls that Sakhee was in excellent shape and delivered a remarkable performance, winning by seven lengths and later capturing the Arc before narrowly missing out in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
He also notes that Halling was pivotal for Godolphin, securing five Group One victories and helping to establish the stable. Although Halling was a top horse, he struggled on dirt tracks. He also sired successful horses such as Cavalryman and Jack Hobbs.
Sulamani, who joined bin Suroor from France after winning the French Derby, also made his mark with victories around the world, including the Canadian International and Sheema Classic.
Bin Suroor added, “Sulamani was a great horse to travel with and had a notable career. Like Sulamani, patience with horses often pays off, as seen with African Story and Prince Bishop, who won the Dubai World Cup at ages seven and eight.”
