Owen Burrows' Alflaila, a five-year-old son of Dark Angel, is poised for a comeback at Royal Ascot with two potential opportunities at the prestigious summer event.
Having secured three Group victories and a Listed prize, Alflaila boasts an impressive racing record. His notable achievements include triumphs in the Pomfret Stakes, Strensall Stakes, and Darley Stakes during the latter part of 2023. Unfortunately, his aspirations for the Bahrain International Trophy were thwarted by an injury setback.
Returning to the track in the subsequent season, Alflaila clinched victory in the York Stakes before demonstrating his class at Group One level with a commendable fifth-place finish in the Irish Champion Stakes.
Injury again disrupted Alflaila's racing plans, leading to an absence from the track. However, he has been undergoing rehabilitation and gradually regaining fitness, preparing for his imminent comeback at Royal Ascot.
Alflaila is nominated for the Prince of Wales's Stakes, covering a mile and a quarter. Still, the consideration of participating in the Listed Wolferton Stakes over the same course is on the table.
Burrows mentioned, "He's progressing well, so I've kept him in contention for the Prince of Wales's at Royal Ascot. He put in a promising workout last Saturday and has some key sessions scheduled for this week. We may target the Prince of Wales's or opt for the Wolferton instead."
"It has been a while since his last race, but hopefully he will return in one of these races," Burrows added optimistically.
