Rashabar steps up to seven furlongs

Rashabar will step up to seven furlongs for his next race, with a long-term goal of competing in the 2000 Guineas in May.

After his surprising 80-1 win in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, the son of Holy Roman Emperor fell just short in the Prix Morny at Deauville, finishing second to Aidan O’Brien’s Whistlejacket. Despite this, he impressed with his strong finish and has earned the chance to race at higher levels.

Sam Sangster, manager for owners Manton Thoroughbreds, confirmed they will stay in Group One races. Options include the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh on September 15, the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at ParisLongchamp on Arc weekend, and possibly the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

Sangster noted, "We believe a step up to seven furlongs will suit him. He finished strongly in the Prix Morny and should handle the Curragh well. The Lagardere and Breeders’ Cup are also on our radar, but we’ll see how his next race goes."

While a trip to Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup is a consideration, the focus remains on preparing Rashabar for the Guineas, with hopes that his performance will confirm his Classic potential.
