Potters Charm Eyes Coral Challow Hurdle

Potters Charm, one of the most exciting novice hurdlers of the season, could continue his stellar campaign in the Coral Challow Hurdle at Newbury on December 28. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained five-year-old has already notched up three wins this season, including a dominant 11-length triumph over odds-on favourite Valgrand in the Grade Two Ballymore Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

That performance established Potters Charm as a leading contender for the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Assistant trainer Willy Twiston-Davies confirmed the Challow is the likely next step:

"Everything is very good with him; he’s just cantering away. There’s nothing set in stone, but we’ll probably head to the Challow. After three relatively quick runs, including two at Cheltenham, he’s having a bit of a quiet time now."

The Twiston-Davies team is also buoyed by the strength of Potters Charm’s form, with horses from his earlier races winning subsequently.

"The form is stacking up brilliantly. From his first Cheltenham race, the runner-up (Minello Sixo) won in Ireland, and the third (First Confession) took a novice hurdle at Ascot. It’s a very strong line of form."

Despite his success on the good-to-soft ground, the team believes he will thrive even more on softer conditions.

"I’m convinced he’ll be better still on softer ground. He won his bumper impressively on heavy at Ffos Las, and we feel he’s been winning despite the quicker ground so far."

The Coral Challow Hurdle would provide another opportunity for Potters Charm to cement his reputation as one of Britain’s leading novice hurdlers this season.
