Porta Fortuna is headed for 1000 Guineas

Following a strong racecourse gallop that impressed trainer Donnacha O'Brien, Porta Fortuna is headed for the Qipco 1000 Guineas.

The Caravaggio filly proved she was more than just a precocious type when she won the Cheveley Park at the end of September, after having won the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

She lost the Juvenile Fillies Turf to Chad Brown's Hard To Justify by a hair of less than a length at the Breeders' Cup, her first race at a mile.

“She’s done well over the winter and we had her at Leopardstown for a day away on the Guineas Trials day and she went very well,” said O’Brien. “We’re very happy with her and aiming for Newmarket. She barely won a maiden on heavy but all her best form is on quick ground, so I’d say the better the ground the better for her. She ran well over a mile at the Breeders’ Cup, but a Newmarket mile is different from Santa Anita. We are happy to give it a go and if it doesn’t work we can always come back (on a trip).”
