Pearson and Sparks Fly Shine in Nottingham Win

Jockey Laura Pearson was ecstatic after guiding Sparks Fly to a decisive victory in the Robin Hood Stakes at Nottingham, describing her mount as “one in a million.” The one-mile Listed race, previously known as the Ben Marshall Stakes at Newmarket, made its debut at Colwick Park and drew a competitive field, including the 8-1 shot Sparks Fly, trained by David Loughnane.

Pearson took a bold approach, sending Sparks Fly straight to the front and hugging the far rail to maintain her lead. The filly responded brilliantly, pulling away to secure a four-and-a-half-length victory over Ralph Beckett’s favourite, Qirat. This marked Sparks Fly’s 10th career win and her first Listed triumph on British soil, providing a bright moment in an otherwise challenging season for Pearson.

“This win means everything to me,” Pearson shared emotionally. “It’s been a tough year, and to have the support of trainer David and owner Mr. Lowe keeps me going. Sparks Fly is a true star – she knows what she wants, and I just let her lead the way.”

In another race, Andrew Balding’s Falconer emerged as a promising talent, narrowly beating Beckett’s favoured El Matador in the EBF Stallions Golden Horn Maiden Stakes. Callum Hutchinson praised Falconer’s potential, noting his strong finish and scope for growth.

Beckett also found success later in the day, as Games People Play won her maiden race as the 13-8 favourite in the Come Racing 6th November Handicap, rounding out an exciting day of competition at Nottingham.
