Palmer thinks of setting Wolf Of Badenoch to compete at Doncaster

Hugo Palmer is enthusiastic about the potential of Wolf Of Badenoch following his promising run in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood.

The two-year-old son of Pinatubo made a strong debut at Doncaster, winning by a length and a half over Lazy Griff, who has since won a race. Moving up to Group Two level at Goodwood, Wolf Of Badenoch, racing keenly and held up, made significant progress when shaken up by Jamie Spencer. He finished second at 14-1, just one and three-quarter lengths behind the 2-1 favourite, Aomori City.

Palmer is considering several options for the colt, including the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster or the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh. He was also entered in the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar in October.

Palmer expressed his delight with the horse's performance, noting the challenge of moving from a maiden win to a Group Two but seeing great potential for the future. He mentioned plans to enter him in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes and the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. While recognising Wolf Of Badenoch's progress, he highlighted the need for improvement to be a Classic contender for the 2000 Guineas, a race he previously won in 2016. Palmer acknowledged there's still a long way to go, especially since the Vintage Stakes winner is currently 33-1 for the Guineas.
