One final race at Chester before career finish for Franny Norton

Franny Norton has announced that he will conclude his distinguished career with one final race at Chester on Saturday.

At 54, Norton is celebrated as a specialist at the Roodee, where he secured a notable victory in the Chester Cup on Making Miracles in 2019. His impressive career also includes victories on Mark Johnston’s Sir Ron Priestley, the Ebor in 1991 with Sir Michael Stoute’s Deposki, and the Cambridgeshire with Tony Martin’s She’s Our Mare.

In a heartfelt social media post, Norton shared: "After an extraordinary journey of over 35 years, the time has come for me to retire from horse racing. On September 21st at Chester Racecourse, I will ride my final race, marking the end of an incredible chapter in my life. From my early days in the saddle to the many highs and lows that followed, this sport has provided me with unforgettable memories. I’ve been fortunate to ride alongside some of the best jockeys, work with exceptional trainers, and compete at the most iconic racecourses. Each moment has been a privilege."

"To my fans who have supported me over the years, your encouragement has meant everything. To the owners, trainers, and stable staff, it has been an honour to share the track with you. And to my family and loved ones, your unwavering support has been the cornerstone of every victory and challenge."

"Though I am stepping away from the track, my connection to this sport, which has been my life, will remain strong. Racing has taught me resilience, passion, and humility, and I am deeply grateful for the incredible journey it has offered. I look forward to sharing this final race with all of you at Chester. Let’s make it a memorable day!"
