John and Thady Gosden’s Ombudsman remains unbeaten following a commanding victory in the Listed Prix Nureyev at Deauville. The Godolphin-owned colt by Night Of Thunder, who did not race at two, had previously secured novice wins at Newmarket and Leicester before being partnered by Ryan Moore in France.
In the 10-furlong race, Ombudsman was ridden with patience, saving his effort for the home straight. He showcased his potential by pulling away effortlessly to win by three-and-a-half lengths from Jane Chapple-Hyam’s Sons And Lovers.
John Gosden remarked that the race was run at a good pace on fast ground. Despite last year’s immaturity and knee issues, his horse has performed well this season. Ryan Moore suggested keeping him at 10 furlongs, emphasising a focus on next year, as he couldn’t race last year. Gosden appreciated the French for offering a Listed race specifically for three-year-olds, which is lacking in England.
Cowardofthecounty, trained by Joseph O'Brien, emerged as the strongest contender in the Prix Francois Boutin, showcasing his talent over seven furlongs under Ryan Moore and winning by a length-and-a-half against the notable Houquetot. O'Brien's assistant, Shane Cross, highlighted the horse's solid form and strong finish, while Moore affirmed the step-up in distance suited him.
In the Prix Lady O'Reilly, Mosaique, trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, won and is now aimed at Group One races, with the Vermeille in sight. The trainer noted her potential for success at both a mile and a half and a mile and a quarter.
