Trainer Nicky Henderson made significant changes after a disappointing start to the Cheltenham Festival.
Champion Chase hopeful Jonbon was among the horses withdrawn on day two, following a string of underwhelming performances by Henderson's stable. The setback began with the withdrawal of Constitution Hill, the Champion Hurdle title holder, adding to the cloud hovering over Henderson's camp.
Despite Luccia's third-place finish in the Champion Hurdle, the remaining five runners on Tuesday failed to deliver, prompting Henderson to take action. In a statement, Henderson noted the need for tough decisions due to the poor showings of most of his horses. Jonbon, First Street, and Kingston Pride were among those withdrawn for the day, citing an unknown issue affecting the horses.
Henderson expressed his disappointment, mentioning that further withdrawals were expected later in the week. However, he emphasised that the decisions were made in the best interest of the horses and everyone involved. Looking ahead, Sir Gino remains a notable entry for the JCB Triumph Hurdle, with Henderson confirming his intention to run. While addressing recent speculations about Sir Gino's condition, Henderson assured that the horse was in good health and set to compete, barring any unforeseen developments.
