Captain Teague by Healy Racing

Nicholls Leaning Towards Albert Bartlett for Captain Teague

Captain Teague is leaning towards featuring in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle over the Baring Bingham at the upcoming Cheltenham event, provided the ground conditions are challenging. Paul Nicholls anticipates that the six-year-old will thrive in the three-mile race unless there's a downpour during the Festival.

The horse, who secured third place in the Champion Bumper a year ago, has notably clinched the Grade One Challow Hurdle this season. Nicholls is impressed by his performance at Newbury, highlighting his strong finish that suggests he can handle the demanding course at Cheltenham.

Describing Captain Teague as a talented contender, Nicholls recalled his victories in a bumper at Plumpton and the Persian War at Chepstow, along with his commendable showing at Cheltenham where he finished second. Despite some jumping issues during his previous outings, the horse's victory in the Challow Hurdle showcased his potential.

Nicholls plans for Captain Teague to undergo a light training session at Kempton alongside Bravemansgame. The decision between the Baring Bingham and Albert Bartlett races hinges on the ground conditions, with a preference for the latter if Cheltenham terrain is standard.

Another horse in the spotlight is Teeshan, expected to make a mark at the Weatherbys Champion Bumper following a convincing victory at Exeter. Nicholls expressed confidence in Teeshan's abilities, drawing comparisons to Captain Teague's previous successes.

Teeshan's preference for soft ground aligns with his potential for future achievements in the vein of Captain Teague. Additionally, Quebecois, a promising novice hurdler, is set to compete in the bumper race, showcasing potential akin to Brindisi Breeze.

As for Liari, the plan is to enter the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle with a substantial weight rather than challenging the top contenders in the Triumph Hurdle division.

Nicholls acknowledged Liari's victories and outlined the decision-making process between the Boodles and Triumph races, hinting at a potential appearance at Aintree. However, the clash with Kalif Du Berlais could influence the final choice concerning Liari’s participation.
