Maw Lam may be set for a run at York’s Ebor meeting following a narrow defeat at Deauville recently.
The talented two-year-old, trained by Adrian Nicholls, made an impressive debut win at Thirsk and came close to Hilary Needler at Beverley on her second outing. She finished a commendable third in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, a race dominated by Yorkshire-trained horses, and continued to perform well in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket.
In the five-furlong Prix de la Vallee d’Auge at Deauville, Maw Lam finished just a quarter-length behind the winner, demonstrating strong finishing form despite being positioned on the wing.
Nicholls now faces the decision of selecting the right race for Maw Lam at York later this month. The filly is entered in both the Group Two Sky Bet Lowther Stakes and the £508,150 Harry’s Half Million By Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes on August 22. She also has the option of the Listed Julia Graves Roses Stakes on the final day of the meeting.
