Newbury win keeps Diamond Rain undefeated

Following an outstanding victory in the Haras de Bouquetot Fillies’ Trial Stakes at Newbury, Diamond Rain is now two for two.

Earlier in the month, Charlie Appleby and Godolphin's three-year-old Shamardal filly made her debut at Ascot, winning by a length and placing first among eight competitors.

She advanced to the Listed level at Newbury by two furlongs, beginning at 3-1 under William Buick.

She maintained a good pace throughout, taking the lead two furlongs from home, and finishing the race with style to win by two and a quarter lengths.

The Godolphin team will consider the winner's next course of action since the filly has an entry in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks later in the summer.

Buick said: “It was a lovely performance and it was a slightly messy race. I was prepared to let her bowl along in front, but she did get a lead which was nice and she stepped up on her debut. This is more her trip I think and she’s coming forward all the time. She doesn’t feel like she’s anywhere near the finished article yet. She’s very straightforward and Charlie has been very pleased since Ascot. She’s got a few options open for her now.”
