My Mate Alfie triumphed at Curragh

My Mate Alfie, ridden by Irish champion jockey Colin Keane, emerged victorious in a thrilling five-way finish at Curragh to win the Jebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Dash Stakes. Trained by Ger Lyons, the three-year-old has shown consistency in his performances and excelled over six furlongs, finishing second in the Committed Stakes and third in the Lacken Stakes.

With a slow pace set by defending champion Commanche Falls, the race came down to a tight battle in the final furlong. My Mate Alfie dug deep and secured a half-length win at odds of 100-30, much to the delight of his connections.

Lyons praised the impact of blinkers on his horse, crediting them for transforming his performance. Looking ahead, My Mate Alfie could potentially target the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood to capitalise on his good form.

Reflecting on future plans, Lyons expressed interest in pursuing races with substantial prize money, such as the Wokingham and the Stewards' Cup. Despite uncertainties about My Mate Alfie's ability to compete at that level, Lyons emphasised the importance of aiming for lucrative races to maximise earnings.
