Middleham Park Racing Sets Its Sights on White Turf Glory with Fairmac

Following a glorious triumph in St Moritz on Sunday, Fairmac’s owners are now setting their sights on the highly anticipated feature contest.

With determination in their hearts, Middleham Park Racing will be proudly represented by Fairmac at the prestigious White Turf meeting, where the talented gelding aims to conquer the esteemed Grosser Preis von St Moritz next weekend.

Under the watchful eye of former trainer Charlie Johnston, Fairmac, the striking grey, embarked on a remarkable journey that led him to Anthony Charlton's stable, ultimately shaping his path towards a promising jumping career. This captivating tale took an unexpected turn with a brief sojourn to Switzerland, where Fairmac made his debut on the snow-covered terrain on February 4. In his maiden snow race, covering a mile and a furlong, the resilient gelding showcased his prowess, securing a commendable fifth-place finish. Eager to continue his snow racing adventure, Fairmac re-entered the fray on Sunday, valiantly competing in the thrilling Preis DC Aviation.

Under the masterful guidance of the illustrious Sibylle Vogt, a true White Turf specialist, Fairmac gallantly emerged as the victor in the exhilarating one-mile race. This triumphant moment on the frozen lake brought immense joy to the esteemed owners of Middleham Park Racing, who have consistently supported snow racing endeavours throughout the years. Tim Palin, representing Middleham Park Racing, expressed his elation, highlighting their previous successes with the likes of Mordred and Stepney Causeway. Now, Fairmac has etched his name into their illustrious record of achievements.

With the spotlight now firmly fixed on the forthcoming Grosser Preis von St Moritz, the crown jewel of St Moritz's annual calendar, Middleham Park Racing reminisces about their commendable second-place finish in the same race in 2022 with the formidable Mordred. Palin enthusiastically shared his anticipation for Fairmac's participation in this grand event, highlighting the gelding's rightful place among the contenders. However, he acknowledged the presence of George Baker's formidable entrants and the Tony Charlton team's shrewd acquisitions, all poised to offer formidable competition.

Palin effusively praised Sibylle Vogt's exceptional riding prowess, recognising her as the epitome of effectiveness on St Moritz's unique terrain. Vogt's impressive partnership with Middleham Park Racing in the past has solidified her status as their go-to jockey. However, her commitments in the upcoming big race may prevent her from riding Fairmac. Nonetheless, the determined gelding remains poised to tackle the challenge head-on.

As Fairmac prepares for the highly-anticipated race on Sunday, Palin discusses the nuances of the upcoming test. The preceding race covered a mile, while the final showdown spans an exhilarating 2,000 metres (1.25 miles), offering a thrilling 400-metre (two furlongs) increase that is expected to suit Fairmac's impeccable abilities. Palin emphasises Fairmac's deserving spot among the contenders, yet humbly acknowledges the potential strength of George Baker's entries and the Tony Charlton team's strategic acquisitions. Nevertheless, he exudes absolute delight in Fairmac's remarkable journey, reminiscing about the gelding's transition from Charlie Johnston's tutelage and his subsequent foray into the world of jumping, culminating in the long-anticipated appearance at St Moritz.

Looking ahead, Palin confidently envisions Fairmac's continued success story, as the plan seamlessly unfolds during the summer season, where the talented gelding is expected to dazzle in the world of jumping.
