Mia Nicholls is set to emulate Saffie Osborne and leverage the Racing League

Mia Nicholls is set to emulate Saffie Osborne and leverage the Racing League to make her mark as she prepares to represent the North in this year's competition.

At just 20 years old, Nicholls is a 5lb apprentice with Eve Johnson Houghton and is the daughter of former jockey and trainer Adrian Nicholls. This season, she has already demonstrated her riding prowess aboard horses like her father's Tees Spirit.

Having celebrated 18 wins last season, she is nearing double digits this year and is eager to advance her burgeoning career as a jockey.

Nicholls got a taste of the Racing League last year when she was selected as a wild card for London & The South. This time around, she is excited to participate from the start and hopes to mirror the success of her fellow jockey Osborne, who has secured the leading jockey trophy for two consecutive years.

“I was a wild card last year, but I’m looking forward to this year,” said Nicholls.

Reflecting on her career so far, she added, “I couldn’t have asked for a better start—last year was incredible with 18 winners. This season has been a bit quieter, but I’m finding my rhythm again. I’m riding regularly for Eve, and my dad has some promising horses in training as well.

“Last year being a wild card in the Racing League benefitted me, so fingers crossed it will have the same effect this year.”
