Menuisier thinks of stepping up Sunwat in the trip

Sunway's performance in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly suggests a step up in distance might be in his plans.

The Galiway colt, a Group One winner in France last season, triumphed in the Criterium International at Saint-Cloud following a runner-up finish in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster.

Beginning this campaign in the Prix la Force, he finished fifth before returning to Saint-Cloud, where he narrowly missed victory by just a neck in the Prix Greffulhe when stretched to the French Derby distance of an extended 10 furlongs.

Drawn in stall eight at Chantilly, Sunway faced early difficulties when he briefly collided with Alcantor from the next stall, setting him back at the start of the race.

Despite this setback, he showed progress as the race unfolded, ultimately finishing seventh, trailing by four and a half lengths. Trainer David Menuisier views the performance positively, drawing encouragement from Sunway's resilience.

The trainer mentioned that the horse has recovered well from the race and is in good condition to compete again. Despite a mishap at the start where the horse almost fell over after clipping heels with another horse, causing the jockey to come off, the horse managed to recover and make up ground during the race. Ultimately, the horse finished only a length or three-quarters of a length behind the fourth-place finisher, showcasing an impressive performance despite the setback.
