Rowdy Romeo, under the guidance of Co. Down trainer Caroline McCaldin, made a decisive move to clinch victory in the Thurles Handicap Hurdle.
Approaching the penultimate hurdle, three contenders were vying for the lead, with JJ Slevin strategically positioned on Rowdy Romeo. As the race unfolded, Linden Arden and Native Speaker battled it out, only for the dynamic to shift when Power Hour stumbled and fell two fences from the finish.
Rowdy Romeo surged forward to join the leading duo at the final obstacle, ultimately outpacing them to secure a notable two-length triumph over the long-time frontrunner, Native Speaker.
This triumph marked a well-deserved win for the Conduit gelding, who had shown promise in his previous five outings.
Reflecting on the victory, the triumphant jockey remarked,
"He demonstrated his quality in past races, including a commendable second-place finish to Letsbeclearaboutit last season, indicating his competitiveness in challenging events. Caroline has been an exceptional supporter, and I am thrilled to secure this win for her."
Furthermore, the jockey highlighted McCaldin's impressive form, stating,
"Caroline's stable is in exceptional form, as evidenced by recent victories in point-to-point contests."
