Maximus makes a good return for Grand National punters
I Am Maximus' incredible Randox Grand National victory had the layers at Aintree licking their wounds, and bookmakers were put to shame.
For the layers in Liverpool, this has been a difficult week as many winners have caused them great suffering.
Furthermore, following Corach Rambler's victory in 2023, Willie Mullins' 7-1 market leader emerged as the second-time winner of the world's most renowned steeplechase, worsening the situation.
“I Am Maximus delivered a knockout blow in the big one for punters as he was one of our biggest liabilities. The placed horses weren’t kind to us either, but there’s always next year!”
With the victory, I Am Maximus puts Mullins in a strong position to win the UK trainers' championship for the first time, and he is now the clear favourite to raise the trophy at Sandown in two weeks.
“Victory for I Am Maximus has seen him claim favouritism for the championship for the first time, as the competition moves to next week’s big Ayr meeting and the £250,000 Coral Scottish National.
"The Grand National continues to be the most anticipated day for bettors, and although I Am Maximus had a large following, he was just one of several runners who shined on this exceptional occasion, so we have no issues with the outcome."
