Marble Sands Triumphs in Colin Parker Memorial

Marble Sands returned triumphantly to National Hunt racing, securing victory in the Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase at Carlisle. Trained by David Killahena and Graeme McPherson, the grey gelding had recently competed in two all-weather Flat races following his novice chasing season, where he demonstrated solid form with a Listed hurdle win and several respectable graded performances.

Ridden by Kielan Woods, Marble Sands started at 15-8 in a field of four, settling at the back but staying in close contention. He challenged 11-8 favourite Colonel Harry in a tight finish as the race progressed. Marble Sands’ superior jumping and stamina in the closing stages enabled him to pull clear, claiming victory by three and three-quarter lengths.

"We’re absolutely delighted, as we’d earmarked this race for him for a while," said McPherson. "The conditions were ideal—he carried no penalty, the weight was favourable, and the trip was spot on. It was a perfect setup with the ground firmer than usual for this time of year."

McPherson praised Marble Sands’ consistency and dedication, noting that apart from graded contests, he has rarely finished outside the top three over the past four years. "He’s a dream to train—hardworking and reliable. I bought him as a three-year-old at the store sales and fell in love with him instantly. It’s fantastic to see him fulfil his potential."

Looking ahead, McPherson mentioned the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle in late November as a tentative next target. "We believe he can handle a longer distance, close to three miles, though we’d reconsider if the ground becomes too soft."

On the same card, Lucy Wadham’s Terresita claimed victory in the Listed Houghton Mares’ Chase, defeating 6-4 favourite Galia Des Liteaux under Gavin Sheehan at odds of 5-1.
