Luther's next port of call is the British Stallion Studs

Charlie Fellowes is confident that Luther can make a mark when he lines up for the British Stallion Studs EBF Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury on Wednesday.

Named after the TV detective known for his bravery, the son of Frankel will need to be just as resilient as he steps up to the Listed level following a promising debut victory in June.

The colt, who cost 250,000 guineas as a yearling, has always impressed Fellowes.

Fellowes remarked, “It’s an intriguing race and Luther is a bit of a character. He’s not the biggest, but he’s incredibly tough. He has a strong will to win—something not all horses have. His recent work was outstanding, probably the best I’ve seen from him.”

Despite the race having only three runners, it boasts strong competitors. Andrew Balding and Qatar Racing's New Century, a previous winner of this race with Elm Park, will be challenging alongside Aidan O’Brien’s Gowran winner, The Parthenon, who will be ridden by Ryan Moore.

Fellowes is excited to test Luther’s capabilities as he steps up to a mile. “It’s a small but competitive field,” Fellowes continued. “Aidan’s horse looks promising, and New Century is a proven performer. The Ascot race didn’t suit him, so this will be a proper test. I believe Luther is up to it. He’s performed well at the course, and the mile should suit him well.”

In addition, there’s Listed action at Salisbury with the British Stallion Studs EBF Upavon Fillies’ Stakes. John and Thady Gosden’s Rainbows Edge, aiming to maintain her unbeaten record for the King and Queen, will compete against Andrew Balding’s Sea Of Roses and Charlie Johnston’s Francophone, who returns to a lower class after struggling in the Pretty Polly Stakes.
