Lossiemouth Unfazed by Distance Challenge
Willie Mullins’ Lossiemouth is to lead Stable's Charge at Cheltenham.
Willie Mullins’ talented mare, Lossiemouth, is set to showcase her prowess at Cheltenham as she spearheads the formidable line-up in the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle.
The grey mare delivered a stunning performance on Trials day in January, triumphing by an impressive nine-and-a-half lengths in the Unibet Hurdle, outpacing rivals including Love Envoi and sparking discussions about her potential in the Champion Hurdle.
Opting to keep Lossiemouth within her sex, her connections are confident as she transitions to the two-and-a-half-mile distance for the first time, securing her as the dominant figure in the betting markets.
Having claimed victory at the Festival last season in the Triumph Hurdle over a shorter distance, trainer Willie Mullins expresses unwavering belief in Lossiemouth's ability to handle the extended trip.
“Lossiemouth was exceptional on Trials day, and I expect her to build on that form in her upcoming race,”
Mullins remarked.
“As a Triumph Hurdle winner, she is well-suited for the distance and I have full faith in her staying power.”
Adding to the stable's formidable presence is Ashroe Diamond, a recent victor in the Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle, who will be ridden by Patrick Mullins. Confident in his second-string, Mullins states,
“Ashroe Diamond is a reliable contender and can deliver a strong performance alongside Lossiemouth.”
Jockey Patrick Mullins echoes this sentiment, highlighting Ashroe Diamond’s capabilities against top-class competition:
“I believe Ashroe Diamond has a strong chance, especially given her past performances against high-calibre opponents. She is well-prepared for the challenge and could spring a surprise at the longer distance.”
Furthermore, under jockey Danny Mullins, Gala Marceau emerges as another promising contender from the yard, showcasing consistent form with notable placements in recent races. The ongoing rivalry between Gala Marceau and Lossiemouth promises an exciting showdown, with both horses having proven their mettle in past encounters.
As the anticipation builds for the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle, the field is enriched by Love Envoi, a previous Festival winner, and other notable contenders such as Marie’s Rock, Echoes In Rain, and a competitive trio from trainer Henry de Bromhead’s stable. Jamie Snowden’s You Wear It Well and Nicky Henderson's Theatre Glory complete the diverse and compelling lineup for the forthcoming event.
