Los Angeles has a high chance of being selected for the Betfred St Leger contest
Aidan O’Brien has a strong presence in the entries for the Betfred St Leger at Doncaster on September 14. Among the 25 horses in contention, O’Brien has 14 entries including Irish Derby winner Los Angeles, the Queen’s Vase one-two Illinois and Highbury, Jan Breughel, and Irish Oaks favourite Port Fairy.
Los Angeles, who held off Sunway at the Curragh, is also entered by David Menuisier in his quest for a first British Classic win. Port Fairy, surprisingly entered by O’Brien, is set to run at the Curragh this weekend after an impressive Ribblesdale win at Royal Ascot. She could become the first filly since Simple Verse in 2015 to win the prestigious race.
Owen Burrows has two entries with Derby fourth Deira Mile and Vanish, while Andrew Balding has Royal Supremacy and Wild Waves entered. Charlie Appleby’s Bahrain Trophy winner Ancient Wisdom is in the mix, but stablemate Arabian Crown is an absentee since winning the Classic Trial at Sandown in April.
Charlie Johnston’s Align The Stars and Simon and Ed Crisford’s Meydaan are among the long-shot entries for the race.
