Look De Vega is looking for a Classic victory at Chantilly
When Look De Vega lines up for the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, he intends to emulate his sire.
The colt is by the 2010 race winner Lope De Vega, who has raced twice for father-and-son trainers Carlos and Yann Lerner of Maisons-Laffitte.
He made his debut at Fontainebleau in November of last year, winning the Prix Yves Saint-Martin over a nine-furlong course by an amazing seven lengths.
He came back this season as a three-year-old to compete in the Prix de Croissy at Longchamp in early May. This event was a step up to 10 furlongs, and the bay won it by a margin of three and a half lengths once more.
His next task will now be to prepare for the Prix du Jockey Club, which will be televised by Sky Sports Racing. Carlos Lerner won this race in 2001 with Anabaa Blue.
Yann, a former jockey who has since joined his father on the licence, said: “His two-year-old programme was exactly how we wanted it, then he enjoyed a really good winter but had a little setback in February which needed a bit of time. That brought us on to the race he ran in the other day (at Longchamp) and that was very satisfying for us. He hadn’t run in quite a long time but that performance took away all the doubt that we had. We probably would have liked him to have more experience but he worked on the Chantilly racecourse last week and he adapted himself very well to the track. He came up the final straight perfectly and it was very important for us that he would get to see the track, everything went really well and the horse is in good form. We’ve always known this horse has a lot of potential, we’ll have to see how everything goes but he goes there in a very good state.”
