Silkies Sib’s triumph in the Legacy Wine Bar Handicap

Making his first appearance since November, Silkies Sib outpaced 21 rivals to claim victory in the Legacy Wine Bar Handicap.

Part of Tim Doyle's duo in the race, the four-year-old, guided by Amy Jo Hayes, defied the odds at 16/1.

Positioned in the middle of the pack, Silkies Sib gradually moved up along the outside, showing determination approaching the home stretch.

Launching his challenge from fourth position with a furlong to go, he surged ahead in the final 100 yards, securing a convincing win by a length-and-a-half.

Sheen Falls Time, the 5/1 favourite, maintained a steady pace to finish second under Nathan Crosse for trainer John O'Donoghue. Comfort Line (12/1) and the late surging Chopsticks (20/1) followed closely behind, claiming third and fourth places respectively.

"It's quite a pairing, two resilient individuals. He's not the easiest to handle, but Amy Jo brings out the best in him," remarked Doyle, who oversees the winner for his wife Claire. "Silkies Sib is a sturdy competitor, a real fighter. Trying to control him directly won't get you far. Amy Jo's approach of just being with him works wonders; it's what he needs."

The victory came as a pleasant surprise for Doyle, who initially had doubts about Silkies Sib's readiness for this level of competition after a long break.

"He exceeded expectations today. I wasn't sure if he'd be up to the challenge straight away, considering he might need a warm-up. But he proved himself admirably."

Silkies Sib thrives with a bit of give in the ground, and the rain was a welcome advantage. Amy Jo's recent success with Doyle's rides adds to the confidence, with another hopeful ride scheduled for Sunday aboard Pink Socks in Gowran.
