Despite being a 14-1 outsider for the Weatherbys/British EBF Agnes Keyser Fillies' Stakes, Lava Stream surprised no one when she emerged victorious at Goodwood under the guidance of a trainer David O'Meara. While all the pre-race buzz centred around William Haggas' Sea Just In Time, who was the 1-2 favourite and finished a disappointing sixth, it was Daniel Tudhope-ridden Lava Stream who triumphed in a close finish, beating Kevin Ryan's Bolsena by a neck.
Owned by Elwick Stud, Lava Stream's win marked a successful weekend for the stud, who also saw her half-brother Iron Lion claim victory at Haydock. The future looks promising for the daughter of Too Darn Hot, who has now won her last three races.
O'Meara expressed his satisfaction with the win, noting Lava Stream's strong pedigree and potential for further improvement. He plans to carefully progress her throughout the season, aiming to eventually target a Group Three race based on her Listed win.
In another Listed race on the card, Charlie Appleby's King Of Conquest, ridden by William Buick, triumphed in the William Hill Tapster Stakes, denying Roger Varian a third consecutive win in the 12-furlong event. King Of Conquest's two-and-three-quarter lengths victory over Varian's Aimeric solidified Buick's recent success, coming off a Grade One win in the Manhattan Stakes at Saratoga.
