Latest Grand National 2024 Update: Monbeg Genius Withdraws from Race

Monbeg Genius, once a prominent contender for Randox Grand National victory, has been withdrawn from the race during the latest confirmation phase. Trained by Jonjo O'Neill, the chaser's recent performances have been underwhelming, notably at Kelso and in the Ultima at Cheltenham where he was pulled up. Alongside 16 others, Monbeg Genius has been scratched from the competition.

Owned by Baroness Michelle Mone and her husband Doug Barrowman, Monbeg Genius races under the colours of Barrowman Racing Limited. Although some assets were subject to a restraint order, Monbeg Genius remained unaffected by this decision and has continued to compete.

The original top weight, Hewick, had already been withdrawn from the race. Other notable withdrawals from higher positions in the list include Asterion Forlonge, Threeunderthrufive, Letsbeclearaboutit, James Du Berlais, and Longhouse Poet.

On Tuesday, additional withdrawals from the race included Busselton, Diol Ker, Macs Charm, Dunboyne, Mister Coffey, Moroder, Gevrey, Fiddlerontheroof, Highland Hunter, and Revels Hill.

As of now, Dan Skelton's Galia Des Liteaux holds the 34th position on the list, securing the final guaranteed spot in the race lineup.

At present, six horses ranging from number 33 to 38 on the list are set to carry 10st 6lb, with their respective handicap marks at the time of elimination determining the order of balloting. If these marks remain identical, the decision will be made through a random ballot.

The subsequent stage for withdrawals is the five-day confirmation stage on April 8.
